In March 2019, Tropical Cyclone Idai hit Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, causing the loss of hundreds of lives and resulting in the destruction of property; homes, schools, clinics and key infrastructure including roads and transit bridges.
While there has been a large emergency rescue and relief effort to save lives and address immediate needs of food, medical care and emergency shelter, the most affected areas of in Chimanimani and Chipinge in Manicaland require millions of dollars to rebuild livelihoods and reconstruct destroyed infrastructure.
From this, the #Reboot and Build better campaign was established. The goal of this campaign is to raise at least USD 25 Million to rebuild the areas affected by cyclone Idai to assist in rebuilding infrastructure but also to restore livelihoods by giving businesses in the area a #Reboot .
According to experts, it is possible that severe cyclones like Idai may recur due to climate change so we need to build better, and be better prepared. Entrepreneurs, business leaders, corporates and individuals are invited to come together for this initiative.
